Lunch Break Video: Meryl Streep and Dennis Quaid have it out in “Postcards From the Edge”

I pretty much love every scene in the 1990 film Postcards From the Edge and, scarily, can do them by heart.

It is one of my favorite movies ever for many reasons and this scene here is one of them. Meryl Streep’s character of Suzanne (based loosely on screenwriter Carrie Fisher’s real life) has hooked up with a persistent movie producer played by Dennis Quaid.

Suzanne spends the night with him and he tells her he loves her. A few days later on the movie set,. Suzanne finds out that Jack has slept with an extra on her film – and he slept with her the same day!

The confrontation is delicious because a) it starts with the very buff and fit Quaid naked in the shower b) the dialogue between the two is priceless!) c) the two actors just play off of each other beautifully as they hurl accusations at each other.

Finally, Suzanne has endured one insult too many and begins firing a gun at Jack. He starts jumping to avoid being hit and she looks at him and says, in a great line reading: “Relax. They’re blanks – asshole.”

Then she drives off!
