Lunch Break Video: Frankie Avalon sings “Beauty School Dropout” to Didi Conn in “Grease”
I don’t know about you, but this number from Grease used to be my least-fave. But that was decades ago and now I love it.
Frankie Avalon shows up in the malt shop to sing some sense into Frenchy (Didi Conn) after she quit high school and was a bust in beauty school.
Some lyrics:
Your story’s sad to tell, a teenage ne’er-do-well
Most mixed up non-delinquent on the block
Your future’s so unclear now,
what’s left of your career now
Can’t even get a trade-in on your smile
Beauty school drop-out, no graduation day for you
Beauty school drop-out, missed your midterms
and flunked shampoo

Chorus Girl says:
I believe the line is actually: “Can’t even get a trade-in on your smock.”
It has to rhyme with: “Most mixed-up non-delinquent on the block.”
