Lunch Break Video: Darlene Love rings in the holidays as only she can with “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)”
One of the smarter things David Letterman does each year is to invite the great Darlene Love onto his show to sing her classic Christmas (Baby Please Cone Home).
Darlene a wonderful singer who sang lead on such hits as He’s a Rebel and He’s Sure the Boy I Love but she never got proper credit or compensation thanks to producer Phil Spector. She spent much of her career singing back-up and, for a time, even cleaned houses to make a living.
But in the 80s, Darlene made a comeback on all kinds of levels by landing the part of Danny Glover’s wife in all four Lethal Weapon movies and portraying herself on Broadway in the Tony-nominated musical Leader of the Pack. She later appeared on Broadway in Grease, Hairspray and the short-lived musical Carrie.
Love has performed Christmas (Baby Come Home) on Letterman’s shows every year since 1986
It is a very fine tradition. This video is from a few years ago. Enjoy!
