Lunch Break Video: Darlene Love rings in the holidays as only she can with “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)”

http://www16.plala.or.jp/christmas1956/02ch-pops01/2007-darlene-love.jpgOne of the smarter things David Letterman does each year is to invite the great Darlene Love onto his show to sing her classic Christmas (Baby Please Cone Home).

Darlene a wonderful singer who sang lead on such hits as He’s a Rebel and He’s Sure the Boy I Love but she never got proper credit or compensation thanks to producer Phil Spector. She spent much of her career singing back-up and, for a time, even cleaned houses to make a living.

But in the 80s, Darlene made a comeback on all kinds of levels by landing the part of Danny Glover’s wife in all four Lethal Weapon movies and portraying herself on Broadway in the Tony-nominated musical Leader of the Pack. She later appeared on Broadway in Grease, Hairspray and the short-lived musical Carrie.

Love has performed Christmas (Baby Come Home) on Letterman’s shows every year since 1986

It is a very fine tradition. This video is from a few years ago. Enjoy!
