Lunch Break Video: Bette, Goldie, Meryl, Cher, Olivia and Lily Tomlin singing “What a Wonderful World”
I remember taping this on my VCR back in 1990. It was a TV special taped at the Greek Theatre in LA to draw attention to the environment called Mothers & Others. It marked Olivia Newton-John’s first time on a concert stage in eight years and also featured a pregnant Meryl Streep.
What a group!
Just for kicks, I decided to add up all their major awards (just the Big Four – Oscar, Emmy, Tony, Grammy): Cher: An Oscar, an Emmy, a Grammy; Meryl Streep: Two Oscars, three Emmys; Goldie Hawn: An Oscar; Bette Midler: Three Emmys, four Grammys, one Tony; Lily Tomlin: Four Emmys, two Tonys, a Grammy; Olivia Newton-John: four Grammys.
That’s a lotta hardware! Sorry, I just don’t think Golden Globe Awards, People Choice Awards etc. measure up the the Big Four but these ladies have plenty of those too!

Some Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon-like Trivia: At this point, Meryl and Cher had already co-starred together in Silkwood and both earned Oscar nominations for their performances; Meryl would go on to star with Goldie in 1993’s Death Becomes Her then three years later, Goldie joined Bette (and Diane Keaton) in The First Wives Club. Most recently, Lily and Meryl played sisters in A Prairie Home Companion.
