Lunch Break Video: Bette Davis and Gena Rowlands square off in “Strangers: The Story of a Mother and Daughter”
Before she had a stroke in 1983, Bette Davis was really on a roll starring in a string of well-received television movies that gave her juicy parts and star billing. One of the best in the bunch was Strangers: The Story of a Mother and Daughter. Gena Rowlands played her estranged daughter who returns home after a 21 year absence to die.
Her mother, unaware of why she has returned, is not so happy to see her. Davis was so good that she won an Emmy for her performance beating out, among others, Katherine Hepburn for her role in the George Cukor-directed The Corn is Green.
