Lunch Break Video: A montage of romantic moments from “Maurice” starring James Wilby & Hugh Grant
This is one of the all-time great gay-themed films and I thought you might enjoy some of the scene on Boxing Day.
Maurice is set at Cambridge University in the early 1900’s, upper-crust, DDG Maurice Hall (James Wilby) has a brief, intense affair – “lovers in “body, mind, and soul” – with a fellow student, the wealthy, DDDG* Clive Durham (Hugh Grant). Ultimately, Durham rejects him, opting for the safety, in a repressive age, of a conventional married life.
As Maurice begins to accept his homosexuality, one of the Durham family’s servants, the young, DDG Alec Scudder (Rupert Graves), falls in love with him and initiates a passionate affair. It founders, broken by class-differences, and the knowledge that to turn toward each other, they will be forced to turn away from the lives they’ve known.
