Lt. Dan Choi on the road to being discharged from military under Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell

Prop. 8 Rally Thank God for Lt. Dan Choi.

By coming out very publicly, he has put a face on the terrible Don’t Ask, Don;t Tell policy that requites gay military personnel to remain closeted and to not be outed in order to serve their country.

But Choi’s public stance and President Barack Obama’s lack of swift action on DADT means good people are being kicked out of the military for no other reason except that they are gay.

A four-officer military board hearing Choi’s case on Tuesday suggested that the West Point graduate be discharged from the Army National Guard. The decision came after a day of testimony in Syracuse, N.Y.

The final decision on Choi’s fate will be made by  Lt. Gen. Thomas Miller of the First Army Division, and Gen. Craig McKinley, the chief of the Nati.onal Guard Bureau, will make the final decision, according to The Post-Standard of Syracuse.

Choi (pictured at a rslly in West Hollywood last month) graduated from West Point in 2003. He is an Arabic linguist and served with the Army in Iraq for 15 months before leaving in 2008 to join the New York National Guard. He said in a news conference following the hearing that he was disappointed but not deterred, adding that he refuses to lie about his relationships to keep his job.

Good man!
