“Looking” and “Hamilton” star Jonathan Groff has never done a sex scene with someone who smells bad

Without naming names, Jonathan Groff makes clear in a new interview that his Looking co-stars Russell Tovey and ‎Raúl Castillo show up for work fresh and clean.

It’s a good thing because his character of Patrick has shared several intimate scenes with his boss Kevin (Tovey) with whom he’s had a torrid affair and with hairdresser Richie (Castillo) with whom he’s had an on-again, off-again relationship.

‘I’ve never done a sex scene with someone who smells bad or I didn’t like something about them,’ Groff tells Michelangelo Signorile of Sirius XM. ‘That would be terrible. That’s the benefit I’ve had.

He adds: ‘I’ve never done a sex scene with someone that has not been so respectful and great about smelling fine and making it as palatable as possible.’

Groff, who recently took some time off from the Broadway musical Hamilton to film a Looking finale to air early next year, doesn’t seem to mind those sex scenes at all – scenes that most actors routinely describe as awkward and not sexy.

‘I find (sex scenes) really fun and enjoyable and funny and weird and hilarious and a great opportunity to share a lot about characters,’ he says. ‘And there’s no words, so it’s an interesting thing to act.’

But it is a bit humorous before you get down to business.

‘When you first get there and you take off the robes and you’re in your weird little dick sock and your anal cover, there’s usually some, like, laughter,’ he admits. ‘And then we sort of talk about what is happening in the scene. And we sort of do a rehearsal with our shorts on or whatever. And then we do it.’
