London Olympics: Serena Williams, Bryan bros win gold medals, complete career Golden Slams!

After winning gold medals at the London Olympics today, American tennis stars Serena Williams and the doubles team of Mike Bryan and Bob Bryan can say they have won everything there is to win in their sport.
They added the Olympic crown to their wins at tennis’ four grand slam tournaments: Wimbledon, Australian Open, French Open and US Open.
Serena, winner of 14 grand slam tournaments including Wimbledon last month, smoked Maria Sharapova 6-0, 6-1 in the championship match. It was one of the most dominant performances Serena has ever delivered in a major tournament.
“I honestly don’t think I have ever played better from start to finish,” she said.
Fingering her gold medal, Serena added:“I love bling-bling but this is like the ultimate.”
She is now only the second woman in the history of tennis to have completed a so-called Golden Slam. The other is Steffi Graf who completed the feat in a single calendar year -1988. (The only male to have completed a Golden Slam is Graf’s husband, Andre Agassi).
Serena and her sister will play for the gold medal in doubles on Sunday. They won gold in 2000 and 2008 and Venus won the gold in singles in 2000.
The Bryan brothers beat the French team of Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Michael Llodra 6-4, 7-6 (2) and are the only men’s doubles team to have achieved the Golden Slam. They have won 11 grand slam crowns and were bronze medalists at the 2008 Olympics.
The Bryan twins, who are 34, are already talking about the 2016 Games in Brazil.
‘‘That’s the goal,’’ Bob said. ‘‘During Wimbledon we made a pact and said we want to shut it down in Rio. If we play a day past Rio, we’re going to shoot each other.’’
