Liza Minnelli on almost becoming Lucille Ball’s daughter-in-law and being friends with Lucie Arnaz

Showbiz icon Liza Minnelli, daughter of Judy Garland and director Vincente Minnelli, almost became the daughter-in-law of I Love Lucy legends Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. When Liza won the Oscar for best actress for Cabaret, she was engaged to former actor and singer Desi Arnaz Jr. who was her date to the Academy Awards ceremony and a Hollywood heartthrob.
Liza, hyping her upcoming autobiography, shared photos of herself with the Arnaz family and writes:
Hi! Today’s update on “Kids, Wait Till You Hear This!,” is in addition to Oprah—NPR, the New York Times, The Guardian, Parade, W, The Millions, Broadway World, Publishers Weekly, The Washington Post, Women.com, and Book Page have named our book among the “most anticipated” of 2026. Gosh this is sweet news. Everyone is asking what stories will I tell and who’s in the book?
One example? Everybody loves Lucille Ball; my family certainly did. I met Lucy and Desi as a child, became engaged to Desi Jr. and Desi Jr.’s parents were nearly my in-laws. Takes “I Love Lucy” to a whole new level. and besides that, Lucie Arnaz, daughter of Lucy and Desi, sister of Desi Jr. and big star in her own right, was nearly my sister-in-law and like a sister to me. In fact, Lucie is one of the few who read the room correctly the night of my Oscar “experience” Lucie is one talented, slick and savvy chick. No grass growing under her feet and can’t pull wool over her eyes. I love you, Lucie. Here’s a carousel of photos featuring me, my father, Desi Jr., his mom, dad, and Lucie. It Was A Good Time!
