Leslie Jordan talks about his new one-man show at The Renberg Theatre called “Full of Gin and Regret”
Love Leslie Jordan and so look forward to seeing his new show with a title that already has me laughing: Full of Gin and Regret: An Evening With Leslie Jordan.
The Sordid Lives and Will & Grace star talks to Frontiers IN LA about how his latest show came together. It plays at the Renberg Theatre Dec. 10-13 and Dec. 17-20.
“A few years ago I did a series for HBO with Lily Tomlin called 12 Miles of Bad Road that never made it on the air, but Lily taught me something. You know, she travels a lot with her one-woman shows, I used to travel with a stage manager, sometimes a director. I had a step that was almost $1,600 to ship so it’s no wonder I never made any money!”
“Lily said, ‘Honey, travel with a mic, and a black turtle neck sweater.’ So I thought, well, I’ll leave the black turtle neck sweater for the lesbian, but I’ll travel with just a mic.”
“So I put together a collection – it’s more like stand-up, more improvisational. And I called it Full of Gin and Regret, which is a line from Will & Grace. I say, ‘Well, well, well Karen Walker. I thought I smelled gin and regret.'”
“It’s a rollicking good time. It’s fast-paced, it;s stories, it’s just what I do.”
Tickets for the show are $35 and can be purchased as lagaycenter.org/boxoffice
