Laverne Cox and Katie Couric meet again and continue move trans conversation forward

Kudos to Katie Couric and Laverne Cox for a classy and substantive follow-up interview on Couric’s daytime talk show this week.

As you know, during Laverne’s appearance earlier this year, she let Couric know that trans people do not want to be asked about their parts and that there is a lot of other issues and topics to talk about.

That appearance and that of Janet Mock on Piers Morgan’s show really was the “tipping point” in which trans people seemed to take the lead in telling their stories.

“We have a voice now,” Cox tells Couric in the video below. “There are so many amazing trans folks out there who are telling their stories [right now]…I think when we get to know folks as human beings, our misconceptions about people who are different than us melt away.”

Unlike Morgan, who was completely obnoxious when challenged by Mock about some of the graphics his CNN show had used to describe her, Couric seemed determined to have others learn from her misstep.
