Lance Bass talks to Wendy Williams about coming out to Britney Spears after her “24 hour marriage”

There’s kind of a sad irony in this interview Lance Bass did this week on The Wendy Williams Show.

At one point, he talks about wanting to marry his boyfriend, Michael, someday: “I dream of that wedding and being married and having kids.”

But earlier in the conversation, he talks about “the little 24 hour” marriage Britney Spears had in 2004 with a childhood friend in Las Vegas which was annulled 55 hours later.

Lance brought up that wedding because he was in Vegas when it happened and Spears was freaking out and crying over what she had just done and aware of the bad publicity that was to come.

“The only thing I could think of to calm her down and make her stop crying was to tell her I was gay,” Lance told the audience. “And she stopped crying.”

But it would be two more years before Bass came out publicly to the rest of the world and by that time, he said, he was ready because N ‘Sync was no longer together.

“I felt like I had four guys careers in my hands and I didn’t want to mess that up,” he said. “So as long as I was with N’Sync, I was basically asexual.”

Bass appeared with Williams to promote his new Sirius XM radio show Dirty Pop, a celebrity pop culture show that is on the air from 6-8 pm weeknights.
