Kirk Cameron blasted by Piers Morgan after complaining his anti-gay comments were reduced to soundbite

Yeah, Kirk Cameron is back in the news.

This is the most famous the former Growing Pains star has been in decades.

He appeared on The Today Show this morning and before he was asked about his new documentary, Monumental, Ann Curry asked Cameron about the comments he made a few weeks ago on Piers Morgan Live about homosexuality being “unnatural, detrimental and ultimately destructive.”

Curry asked Cameron if this amounted to “hate speech.”

Cameron said: “I love all people, I hate no one. When you take a subject and you reduce it to something like a four-second soundbite or a check mark on a ballot, I think that’s inappropriate and insensitive. The truth is, these are issues that are very personal and these are things that need to be discussed, I believe, in a personal friendship with someone who’s asking the question. When things get edited down like that, it certainly didn’t reflect my full heart on the matter.”

Morgan wrote in a series of  tweets: “Kirk Cameron is moaning everywhere today that I stitched him up by releasing a 4-second ‘soundbite’ re his comments on gay marriage…These are the 4 seconds: homosexuality is ‘unnatural..detrimental, and ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization’…Mr Cameron ‘stands by the comments’, despite his whining. So I’ll let others decide if he was stitched up…or just a bigot…Re #KirkCameron, I respect his religious beliefs – just don’t respect his use of bigoted, inflammatory language re homosexuality. End.

Meanwhile, back to the Today interview. Curry wondered if Cameron’s words were giving people permission to mistreat gay people.

“Nobody should mistreat anybody,” he said, looking a bit alarmed. “Homosexuals should not be mistreated, heterosexuals should not be mistreated. Bisexuals should not be mistreated. .. All of us who really think deeply about social issues like gay marriage and abortion and homosexuality have convictions on issues. We all have our convictions formed by different things and mine are informed by my faith, they’re informed by the word of God and I found that to be an anchor for me, a compass and a guide for me. When people start bullying one another and calling each other names for those different convictions, then I think you get into problems. I’ve been ion the receiving end of that.”

Curry wanted to know why Cameron would say things like that. when he knows they would cause a firestorm. He said: “I was surprised frankly that people were surprised by the things that I said because I have been consistent for 15 years as a Christian, I’m a Bible believing Christian. What I would have thought would have been more newsworthy was if I had said something that contradicted the word of God, if I had contradicted my faith.”

4 Remarks

  1. He can take his bible and his nasty comments and run with them. He is a very little ignorant man (kid). Morgan knew what would happen, he is no dummy. Morgan is laughing all the way to good ratings about this. Its dumb a88ses like this that give religion and terrible name and I will never touch another bible.

  2. This is purely a transparent attempt to get himself back into the spotlight, and I find that a little bit pathetic to be honest. The only thing worse than bigots are those who defend their ignorance with their Christian faith. Every single supposed Christian who spouts that reasoning only displays their own lack of intellect at understanding the Bible, the time it was written in or to whose purpose at that time, or how to apply the Bible’s true message in our daily lives. The world is older than 10,000 years and no, the apple Adam and Eve ate wasn’t literally and apple. All Cameron did was show the world that he’s too stupid to think for himself and that he’s not put in any effort to really understand the faith he’s touting. The Bible is a dangerous book in the hands of fools like Kirk Cameron.

Why would Cameron even be news? He said so himself that his comments were not news. That it would be news if he had contradicted himself from his anti-gay stance that has been consistant.
