Jussie Smollett makes his first statement since attack: ‘My body is strong but my soul is stronger’
On Friday, three days after a racist and homophobic attack, the Empire star Jussie Smollett made his first public comments.
“Let me start by saying that I’m OK,” he said in a statement obtained by EW. “My body is strong but my soul is stronger. More importantly, I want to say thank you. The outpouring of love and support from my village has meant more than I will ever be able to truly put into words.”
He continued by briefly touching on the investigation, with police currently looking for two persons of interest.
“I am working with authorities and have been 100 percent factual and consistent on every level,” he said. “Despite my frustrations and deep concern with certain inaccuracies and misrepresentations that have been spread, I still believe that justice will be served.”

I hope they find the necessary evidence and that justice is served. The police say that it is a high density population area, so surely enough, videos will appear to provide more help the more they investigate, as well as back up his story and find witnesses who could give additional accounts, as those declared “person of interest”. It would be very sad that we could only have his word for all of this and no consequences are faced. Serious allegations must be taken seriously, always. And it would be sad that those who say that this didn’t happen end up having the advantage of the lack of some corroboration or even sadder if it happens to be yet another “Calum McSwiggan” who embarrassed all of us who rushed to his support when it was proven a liar.
