Jussie Smollett holds press conference: “I have been truthful and consistent on every level since day one”

All the criminal charges against “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett have been dropped. Smollett — who authorities had said filed false reports of a crime — had been indicted on 16 felony counts by a Cook County grand jury.

Smollett held a press conference to discuss the new development.

“First of all, I want to thank my family, my friends, the incredible people of Chicago and all over the country and the world who have supported me, prayed for me, who showed me so much love,” Smollett began. “No one will ever know how much that has meant to me, and I will be forever grateful.”

He continued, “I want you to know that not for a moment was it in vain. I have been truthful and consistent on every single level since Day One. I would not be my mother’s son if I was capable of one drop of what I have been accused of. This has been an incredibly difficult time, honestly one of the worst of my entire life. But I am a man of faith and I am a man that has knowledge of my history, and I would not bring my family, our lives or the movement through a fire like this. I just wouldn’t.”

“I want to thank my legal counsel from the bottom of my heart, and I would also like to thank the state of Illinois for attempting to do what’s right. I would like nothing more than to get back to work and move on with my life, but make no mistake, I will always continue to fight for the justice, equality and betterment of marginalized people everywhere.”

4 Remarks

  1. “Rather than jail time, he agreed to forfeit his $10,000 bond and now the 36-year-old’s record is clear” “Assistant State’s Attorney Joe Magats claimed he made the decision because Smollett was not a violent threat to the community” Etc. (and not exactly small etceteras).

He can say whatever he wants but there is no denying that he damaged the credibility of so many real victims and he pulled some people into his same delusional how (what is worse for me, because it leads people from every side to extremism). Again, he can pose as the hero he dreamed he was, but another thing is having people who believe in his sainthood; yeah, surely enough there would always be some of those.

They may have agreed that giving him jail time for a (very harmful, socially speaking) “shenanigan” was not necessary giving that he was already discredited, destroyed his career (realistically) and was having to put money instead of gaining prominence and money over it, but that is quite different to being victim he still thinks he can be (as only a sentence after a trial, another costly procedure for such a stunt, could have been the only way to force him shut his mythomaniac lying mouth up).

  2. I have a very hard time believing he’s been 100% truthful as he claims.

  3. I live in Chicago and the Police Chief and Mayor are outraged about this decision. Personally, I didn’t believe him from the get-go since I was a victim of street crime many years ago and my face looked like raw meat for a week or more afterwards along with a broken jaw. He had a couple small marks which the police believe he did to himself. There are some people who will lie straight to your face. This dude is one of them.

  4. Would an innocent person use the word “consistent?” That seems odd.
