John Barrowman on Brandon Routh’s body: ‘I mean, for Christ’s sake, it’s Superman!’

Working on a set with studmuffins Stephen Amell and Brandon Routh would be a dream come true.

John Barrowman is living that dream as part of the cast of Arrow.

Barrowman once joked it was written into his contract that Amell be naked around him on camera (see photo below).

Routh, who played the title role in 2006’s Superman Returns, joined the series last year as Ray Palmer/Atom and is well-known for having an impressive physique.

Barrowman has noticed.

‘I’ve seen Brandon,’ a grinning Barrowman tells The Backlot.

They have not yet had any scenes together but, Barrowman says, ‘I’m there when he’s doing his sequences, of course, with his shirt off, yeah.

‘Listen, I don’t miss an opportunity in the trailer or whatever. Someone’s in there getting stuff done, I’m right in there, I mean, for Christ’s sake, it’s Superman!’

Does he think Arrow should be more homoerotic or gay?

‘I don’t see shows as being gay or straight, Barrowman says. ‘If we’re appealing to a gay audience, fantastic. And I mean, when they take someone’s shirt off or they make them fight half naked, of course that’s going to appeal to gay men and women, right?

‘But, also, what I’m finding is that it’s appealing to straight men– because they want to see how good their physiques are. So to say then, you know me, I want it to be as balanced as possible, but if it’s homoerotic then great, it’s homoerotic. I love being on set when they’re fighting with their shirts off. It’s awesome.’
