John Barrowman concedes “Gay Man of the Decade” to NPH: “I’d be happy to cross swords with you again in the future”
British cutie pie John Barrowman, who I’ve loved since he was on Central Park West in the 90s, was gracious in conceding the AfterElton.com Gay Man of the Decade contest to Neil Patrick Harris.
The Torchwood star put up a spirited battle via Twitter that got all kinds of positive attention for this must-read site and for gay people overall. Both are such good representatives of how talented and well-grounded people can thrive as openly gay actors.
That doesn’t mean John isn’t a little naughty sometimes (thank God!). Here is part of his concession speech to Neil:
Congratulations Neil! I’m happy to be under you at number two, and I’m really pleased we generated so much interest in the poll. I think we’ve proved that The Timelords have nothing on Captain Jack and Dr. Horrible – We are the‘gay-lords of the decade.’
I’m also hoping there is an award of some kind for the honor. Even though I didn’t win, if it’s a two sided trophy given how much fun we’ve had during the past few days, maybe you’ll share with me.
You were a worthy opponent, Neil, and I’d be happy to cross swords with you again in the future.

It was a no brainer that NPH would win. NPH enjoys the same popularity that Ellen D. does – he can do no wrong in the public eye. However, if you take a long look at John And his partner, Scott’s relationship, you will see that he has never been hesitant about sharing their life with the public. If you watch his very enjoyable 2009 concert (out on dvd) you’ll get alot of pleasure listening to how proud he is of his relationship. Kudos to John – he set the standard long before it was popular.
