Joe Manganiello talks to Greg In Hollywood about old pal Matt Bomer and his “True Blood” character
I must admit, the red carpet at the Human Rights Campaign Gala on Saturday night had been a little lackluster until HE arrived.
Joe Manganiello of True Blood fame not only posed for endless photos, he also took the time to chat with every journalist he could until he was literally pulled away by handlers.
I got in a few questions about his pal Matt Bomer.
He told me he would ‘love’ to have his longtime friend guest star on True Blood.
‘I think he’d be a great vampire,’ Manganiello said. ‘Yeah, totally. We spent 15 years apart after college and then in the past year we got to work together a couple of times. He asked me to come to an episode of White Collar and then we got to work on Magic Mike.’
So what does Manganiello think of Bomer’s decision last month to publicly thank his partner Simon Halls and their kids at an awards dinner, a move that effectively announced to the world that he is gay.
“Matt’s been a friend of mine for a long time,” the actor said. “So I fully support Matt and everything that he does.”
He also spoke a little but about what is in store for his character of werewolf Alcide Herveaux on True Blood.
“Let’s just say this year his balls drop,” the actor said. “He’s not taking anybody’s crap this year. So you’re going to see a real emergence of a hero in the character. We’re also going to go way further than my character went in the books. I can’t say anything more.”

Classy guy like his pal Bomer!
Lizza h. Gonzalez says:
I was so dissapointed with the interview, i think there are a lot of good questions
to make instead of the gay thing
ND Mitchell says:
Love Joe and Matt..what a super couple!
CJ says:
I have to agree with Lizza. I mean, you’re talking to Joe Manganiello – get scoop about him and his projects! If you really want to turn the conversation to include Matt Bomer – and I’m a huge Bomer fan, so nothing wrong with that – then get some inside info on making Magic Mike. Or get him to talk about the celebrity football games they’ve participated in together – looked like they both had fun. But asking an actor to comment on someone else’s private life is kind of tacky. Never been a fan of that no matter who it is.
Ridley says:
Agree – both deserve better! Matt is too talented and hot to be pigeon holed as a ‘gay’ actor. He is so far above the rest of that group.
