Joan Rivers’ stupendous rainbow pride coat is being auctioned off to raise money for Family Equality Council

It seems Joan Rivers, with her legions of gay fans, owned a spectacular rainbow pride coat.

Now the coat she originally wore at the Las Vegas Pride Parade four years ago will be auctioned off to raise money for the LGBT rights group Family Equality Council.

‘My mother loved, respected and celebrated families of all kinds,’ her daughter, Melissa Rivers, tells People.com.

‘She would be thrilled to know that her coat, which celebrates diversity, is being sold to benefit loving families.’

The coat initially appears to be a glittery gold gown with a ruffled-neckline. But it opens up to reveal a spectacular and sparkly rainbow lining.

It will be auctioned off on 9 May at the organization’s the Night at the Pier gala at Pier 60 in New York City.

‘Joan Rivers was a celebrity pioneer in her unbridled support of the LGBT community,’ says Ian Patrick, deputy director of events for Family Equality Council.

‘We are honored to offer this precious piece of her legacy to support our work to secure a rightful place for LGBTQ-headed families in America.’

Rivers died in September 2014 at the age of 81 after a botched medical procedure.

She had been working up until the night before the procedure doing live stand-up and had that week taped an episode of Fashion Police.
