Jeremy Irons reflects on his gay marriage leads to incest comments: “I feel I should’ve buttoned my lip”
This interview Jeremy Irons gives to BBC News shows that he has opinions about everything from smoking to gay marriage.
His recent comments about whether gay marriage might lead to fathers marrying sons for tax purposes got a lot of attention. He had also said: ‘I worry that it means somehow we debase, or we change, what marriage is. I just worry about that.’
Well, Irons is still talking. The actor says: ‘I felt I should’ve buttoned my lip. I was just flying a kite. … I was just rather amused by the idea which I put forward. It had nothing to do with my feelings.’
‘I didn’t have any opinion about gay marriage, I don’t actually have an opinion about heterosexual marriage except I sort of think it might possibly protect children. That’s why I married my wife.’
He adds: ‘Marriage is about procreation really. Historically that’s how it’s always been.’
For some people Jeremy, it’s also about love.
