It’s my Blogiversary! Greg in Hollywood turns 17!

It was 17 years ago yesterday that Greg In Hollywood was launched!

I’m on vacation so wasn’t able to do a post yesterday but I will be posting sporadically this week when I’m not watching tennis matches and practices at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.

The world is in a difficult place right now but I hope some of what you see here each day takes you away for at least a little while.

I very much appreciate faithful readers of this blog which is still so satisfying to do after all these years. This site helps me to express my tastes and thoughts as a gay man, to curate some of the news of the day for you, to find videos to share, to cover events and do interviews, to write about classic movies and TV shows, to do some posts about tennis, and to celebrate the work of the LGBTQ community and our allies.

As some of you may know, I had been a newspaper reporter for more than 15 years when I created the popular Out in Hollywood blog for the LA Daily News in 2006. I quickly became addicted to immediacy and creativity of blogging and did not want to stop after being a casualty of mass layoffs at that paper at the end of February in 2009. So Greg In Hollywood was born a week later.

I tried to make this independent blog my full-time gig for a few years along with freelance writing but that got tough financially! So for the last 15 years, I juggled it with my writing/reporting jobs at Gay Star News (2011-17), the Los Angeles LGBT Center (2017-2022), and now at the University of Southern California. These jobs have all been demanding, dynamic and fulfilling but I’ve never wanted to stop having my own site as well.

If you aren’t already, I hope you will also start following me on Instagram (@greginhollywood) because I do a lot of event coverage there that doesn’t always manage to make it onto the blog because of time constraints. Later today, I’ll be celebrating the 17th blogiversary with 17 photos of some of my favorite celebrity encounters over the years. Once I post it, I’ll probably pick 17 more!

Anyway, thanks for the love and the interest. It’s always so great to meet readers when I’m out and about who let me know they still enjoy their daily fix!
