It was a very special night revisiting ‘Doing Time on Maple Drive’ with the writer and cast
The LGBT Writers Committee of Writers Guild of America West held a most extraordinary event last night and I was so glad to be there. It was the 25th anniversary screening of Doing Time on Maple Drive. Seeing a movie on a large screen – even if you’ve seen it many times before – is always like seeing a movie for the first time. The event reunited the film’s writer James Duff with cast members William McNamara, Jayne Brook, Lori Loughlin and James Sikking. The performances are even more powerful on a big screen and the film really holds up. I will post a recap of the post-screening discussion moderated by Gary Goldberg over the weekend but just wanted to put up some photos for now. See my interview with screenwriter James Duff HERE.

This is fantastic! Thank you so much for reporting on this event. I remember watching Doing Time on Maple Drive when it originally aired as a 13-year old. I hadn’t fully realized I was a lesbian at the time, but it made a big impression on me, and I now own the DVD. The movie is very well done and I believe an important part of LGBT TV history.

Could director Ken Olin (thirtysomething) not make the event?
