Isaiah Washington joins NO H8 campaign

Isaiah Washington is joining such celebs as Fran Drescher, Meghan McCain, Pete Wentz and director Bryan Singer in photographer Adam Bouska’s NO H8 campaign.

But I’m still not sure what to make of Isaiah. The former Grey’s Anatomy star handled himself so horribly a few years back in regards to using a gay slur in reference to T.R. Knight during an on-set scuffle with Patrick Dempsey. He made things worse by repeating the slur (during a denial) in front of the international press backstage at the Golden Globe Awards in 2007. Then he had some kind of counseling to try and keep his job and after he was fired anyway, he went on a strange media which included the trashing of Knight during an appearance on Larry King Live.

I still don’t understand all of that.

In an interview connected to his involvement in the No H8 effort, he said: “What has been purported about me has nothing to do with who I am. I have been dealing with organizations like ACT UP for over 25 years. …  Fighting for awareness of HIV/AIDS for 25 years of my life…”

Anyway, he’s a very talented actor who made some very big mistakes in the public eye and it cost him dearly. If he’s truly sorry and trying to make a difference then I wish him luck.
