Is Anderson Cooper being considered for Matt Lauer’s job? Will he do a show with Kathy Griffin?

I don’t know about you, but I would love to wake up every morning to Anderson Cooper.

Deadline reports that NBC has reached out to The Silver Fox about replacing beleaguered Matt Lauer on The Today Show.

I stopped watching Today after the unbelievably shoddy treatment of Ann Curry last year – a woman who had been on the show for 15 years.

Lauer has been cast as the bad guy in her demotion although there are certainly some network execs who are more responsible.

It was as if nothing was learned from the Jane Pauley-Deborah Norville debacle 20 years earlier.

Anyway, Anderson would be one of the only people who could get me away from the vastly superior CBS This Morning which is by far the best of the three network morning shows.

Okay, so there’s that possible job for a man who currently hosts a nightly show on CNN, a daily syndicated talk show and is a correspondent for 60 Minutes.

But the daytime show ends this summer after two seasons and Anderson will have some free time if Today doesn’t pan out.

So why not do a talk show with his pal Kathy Griffin?

Deadline (again!) is exclusively reporting that this dynamic duo, who have co-hosted CNN’s New Year’s Eve coverage for at least six years, filmed a pilot earlier today at CNN studios in New York.

Details are sketchy but it was filmed in front of a live audience that included new CNN boss Jeff Zucker.

Griffin currently hosts a one-hour weekly series on Bravo called Kathy which has a terrific theme song but that I can basically take or leave.

So what do you think? Would you like to see Anderson on Today? Or with Kathy? Or do you think he’s already on TV too much as it is.

I’m telling you right now, the Today gig sounds like it would be an absolutely perfect fit and Anderson would make history as the first openly gay man to ever host one of the network morning news shows.

One Remark

  1. If he does a show with Kathy G., I will never watch him again.
