In first-person article, Alec Baldwin refers to trans person as “one young man, an F-to-M tranny”
Just sat down to read Alec Baldwin’s first-person New York magazine article posted by Gawker tonight called Goodbye Public Life.
I’m about six paragraphs in and Alec is writing about an LGBT group he met with in Hawaii and starts a sentence this way: “One young man, an F-to-M tranny … ”
Am just astonished given that the Emmy winning actor would use this phrase. It’s kind of like not knowing calling someone a ‘cocksucker fag’ would be a problem.
Ironically, the trans man asked if Baldwin was there to get dry-cleaned, like Brett Ratner who stepped down as Oscars producer a few years back after using an anti-gay slur during a screening.
Baldwin writes: ‘ …I could do some mea culpa, write them a six-figure check, go to a dinner, sob at the table, give a heartfelt speech, beg for forgiveness. I thought to myself: Beg for forgiveness for something I didn’t do?’
(Baldwin has denied calling a photographer a ‘cocksucking fag’ despite the incident being captured by a TMZ camera. He claims to have said ‘cocksucking motherfucker’)
‘I said, “No. I don’t want to get dry-cleaned. I don’t want to be decontaminated by you, Karen Silkwood–wise, scrubbed down. I want to learn about what is hurtful speech in your community. I want to participate in some programs about that. Or underwrite one. And then, like you, I just want to be left alone.’
For starters, ‘tranny’ is considered hurtful speech.
