I’m so happy Luke Macfarlane and Michael Urie will star in gay rom-com “Single All the Way” for Netflix
Netflix has landed gay holiday rom-com Single All the Way from Tony-winning director Michael Mayer with Michael Urie, Philemon Chambers, and Luke MacFarlane leading the cast.
Variety reports that the holiday-themed romantic comedy also features Barry Bostwick, Jennifer Robertson, Jennifer Coolidge and Kathy Najimy.
Here’s the plot: Desperate to avoid his family’s judgment about his perpetual single status, Peter (Urie) convinces his best friend Nick (Chambers) to join him for the holidays and pretend that they’re now in a relationship. But when Peter’s mother sets him up on a blind date with her handsome trainer James (MacFarlane), the plan goes awry.
Mayer says it’s “really gratifying to tell a story that happens after coming out!”
Macfarlane, who is gay in real life, has been playing the heterosexual leads in a slew of Hallmark movies in recent years. He’s just as good in these movies as he was as a gay character on ABC’s Brothers & Sisters. He single-handedly illustrates how silly the debate is that only openly gay actors should play gay roles.
Also love the amazing Urie who came to fame on ABC’s Ugly Betty, starred in the CBS sitcom Partners which I loved, and more recently was a sensation in Buyer & Cellar.

John says:
Macfarlane also starred for five seasons on the science fiction series “Killjoys,” which aired on the Syfy network. That’s where the photo you posted came from. It was another straight role that also showed his range as an action hero.
Bill says:
Who could ask for anything better than these two guys together? Luke has got to be one of the most handsomeguys in existence! He needs to have a series for himself (and me).
Mitch says:
I’m sorry but I can’t watch Luke Macfarlane play straight roles in his Hallmark films, that’s just like Jonathan Bennett. Now I can watch straight guys play gay roles like Stanley Tucci in “The Devil Wears Prada” and “Supernova”. Am I just crazy/weird?
