Iga Swiatek beats Coco Gauff in French Open final to win second career Grand Slam title
Iga Swiatek is ruling women’s tennis right now and I am loving it!
It’s great to have a dominant champion instead of watching grand slam finals featuring players I’d barely heard of!
Iga I have heard of and have been rooting for ever since she seemingly came out of nowhere to win the French Open in 2020. Since Ash Barty retired on top after winning the Australian Open this year, Iga has taken over winning six straight tournaments and 35 consecutive matches.
She cruised to victory over the teenager Coco Gauff with a 6-1, 6-3 win in the final at Roland Garros in a match where she was almost never seriously challenged.
“This time I felt the pressure,” she said after the match. “I felt baggage on my shoulders because I wasn’t an underdog anymore and I’m even more proud that I could do it and that I could make it for the second time.”
