“I Love Lucy” Friday returns with Lucy Ricardo doing anything she can to get a glimpse of Cornel Wilde

I Love Lucy Fridays has been on a long hiatus but I decided to revive it this week because I had a very Lucy Ricardo-like day yesterday.

My landlord, who happens to live right above me in Silver Lake, has a house guest this weekend named Ira Sachs who happens to be a film director in town for the Independent Spirit Awards for which he is a multiple nominee.

I had seen his film, Keep the Lights On, and thought it might be nice to do an interview. Since we share a front yard, I figured I’d run into him, introduce myself, and suggest a chat. Well, it wasn’t happening. I walked by a few times to “get something from my car” then to “take the garbage out” and no sightings.

I thought to myself, “Good grief, should I dress up as a UPS man and deliver a package?”

It all started to feel like the I Love Lucy episode called “The Star Upstairs” when Cornel Wilde has checked into the hotel room right above the Ricardo’s in Hollywood.

I posted my dilemma on Facebook and got all kinds of suggestions such as hiding under the room service cart (Lucy did this for you non-fans) or dressing up like Superman (another Lucy reference).

Anyway, I finally just went back upstairs and left note and we are chatting later this morning.

But I had so much fun scheming! It’s just a reminder that about 60 years after the Cornel Wilde episode first aired, Lucy is still such a part of our lives, still making us laugh.
