Her US tour canceled, Michelle Shocked is proving that being anti-gay is not so good for business
This is such bizarre behavior.
Singer Michelle Shocked was performing at a jazz club in San Francisco on Sunday night when she went into a rant against gay marriage and said to the audience: ‘I live in fear that the world will be destroyed if gays are allowed to marry.’
She then said to the crowd: ‘You can go on Twitter and say, ‘Michelle Shocked says God hates fags.’”
Much of the audience walked out on her.
Now the other venues that had booked her to play other dates on her current US tour are walking out.
Earlier today, The Telluride Bluegrass Festival in Telluride, Colorado, canceled Shocked’s scheduled appearance there. Four venues in California, two in Colorado, and one each in Oregon, Washington, and Illinois had all already canceled upcoming shows.
That leaves Shocked with exactly zero dates left on her US tour.
A Change.org petition encouraging venues not to employ Shocked had nearly 3,000 signatures as of Tuesday evening PST.
The petition states in part: ‘Freedom of speech and artistic expression are critically important, but this isn’t free speech. This is hate speech.’
‘And in a world where LGBT people are bullied from the pulpit, on the playground, and at the polls, anti-gay hate speech can have serious consequences including legitimizing bullying and hate crimes, and increasing victims’ risk of anxiety, depression, and suicide.’
The petition is also seeking to have Shocked’s European dates canceled.

It’s so sad. I hate what she said, but I liked al her music before she went Penacostal. I’m glad she’s feeling the effects.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Expressing hate is destructive and that is another story-look what Hitler did with it. I went to Change.org and signed the petition on principle.

Dear Change.org…why just her? How about Hannity and Limbaugh and all the rest of the Fox news network and that disgusting Pat Robertson and his show and Michelle Bachman and that awful “family” guy in Colorado etc etc etc….. Isn’t there hate just as bad as hers? Where are your petitions and boycotts against them???!

Never heard of her. Everyone has free speech, but there are consequences as well. Glad that shes seeing that there are consequences to what she says. Being Bi-Polar doesn’t excuse being a bully.
