He may have been target of gay joke before her death, but President Obama respected Joan Rivers

Happy Sunday evening everyone.
Sorry for the lack of fresh content over he weekend – I didn’t have a chance to do any advance posts and was in Palm Springs all weekend attending films at Cinema Diverse.
Anyway, kicking back off with this item:
Joan Rivers, not long before her death, caught some static from the LGBT community for a joke she made about President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama.
In July, Joan was asked about being asked about likelihood of the US ever having either a female or a gay person elected.
She replied, ‘We already have that with Obama. You know Michelle is a tranny. A transgender. We all know.’
Obama is not holding a grudge.
During the TV special Friday night entitled, Fashion Police: Celebrating Joan, Melissa Rivers read a handwritten letter she received from President Obama after her mother’s death.
‘I received a letter from the White House from President Obama, someone who was often a target of her jokes, as was Mrs. Obama,’ Melissa said on the show.
She then went on to read from the letter: ‘Not only did she make us laugh, she made us think.’
Melissa then shared her own observation: ‘I think that’s one of the things people now are realizing. It wasn’t just the funny, she made us think.’
Melissa Rivers was producer of the hugely popular weekly Fashion Police series on E! which was an integral part of the final stretch of her mother’s legendary career.
