Harry Hamlin turns 62 today – a look back at his most memorable film “Making Love”
Happy birthday to Harry Hamlin who turns 62 today.
Harry is most famous for his years on TVs LA Law and returned to television this year in an Emmy nominated performance on Mad Men.
But for a lot of us, it was for 1982′s Making Love that we will always best remember Harry. He played an openly-gay novelist who has an affair with Michael Ontkean’s character who is a doctor with a TV executive wife (Kate Jackson).
‘Pretty much not a day goes by, if I’m out in public, does somebody not come up to me and say something about this film,’ Harry said last year at an Outfest panel. ‘Some will have tears in their eyes and say, “Thank you for making this film.” It really is seminal to a lot of people.’
Hamlin also talked about why he agreed to do the movie: ‘I read the script and did have a lot of people say I shouldn’t do it. I had just done Clash of the Titans and I always thought that movie was kind of stupid. I felt I wanted to do something to balance that out, something relevant to the time. I was looking for something real.’

Thanks for posting; now I’d like to know what happened to Michael Ontkean and how he feels about it. Favorite line (Michael to “wife” Kate: “I find that I’m attracted to men….”

If you haven’t seen this film, you should. It truly was ground breaking for two men to kiss! I took a friend of a friend to see it who had just come out. I thought I was going to have to carry him out of the theater when it was over!

I think Harry Hamlin in “Clash of the Titans” is what made me gay.
