It’s hard to believe that there are those who only know the great Patti LuPone from her role as Libby on ABC’s Life Goes On. That’s the power of television for you!

This powerhouse performer, who turns 62 years old today, can look back on a stage career that includes Tony-winning performances as Eva Peron in the 1979 musical Evita and Mama Rose in the 2008 revival of  Gypsy and in her Olivier Award-winning performance as Fantine in the original London cast of Les Miserables.

Her other memorable roles include her Tony-nominated roles as Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd and Reno Sweeney in Anything Goes and her Olivier-nominated performance as Norma Desmond in the London production of Sunset Boulevard.

There’s nothing like seeing Miss LuPone live. I last saw her at the Ahmanson in 2009 in her show with Mandy Patinkin after seeing her in the mid-90s in the Broadway play Master Class and the sensational one-woman show Patti LuPone on Broadway.

She most recently was on Broadway on Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown and earlier this month in a three-night engagement of Company where she sang The Ladies Who Lunch and made it her own.

To celebrate her birthday, here is video of Patti singing another song from Company which I love: Being Alive.

Happy Birthday to Patti!
