Happy birthday to Emmy winner Murray Bartlett!

I’ve been a tremendous fan of Murray Bartlett’s since seeing him in the 2011 film August at the Outfest Film Festival and meeting him at a post-screening reception. I thought he was just dynamite and hoped big things would happen for him after that.

He always worked steadily but took a little while before I saw him in another significant role and that was as Dom Basaluzzo in the HBO comedy-drama series Looking (2014–2015) which really deserved to last longer.

But it was enough to launch Murray, who turns 53 today, into a series of wonderful roles in high-profile projects including that of Michael “Mouse” Tolliver in the Netflix revival of Tales of the City, Nick De Noia in the Hulu miniseries Welcome to Chippendales, Vinnie Green in the Apple TV+ series Physical, and, of course Armond in the first season of the HBO dark comedy series The White Lotus for which he won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.

Most recently, he portrayed Frank in the oh-so-memorable episode “Long, Long Time” of the HBO post-apocalyptic drama series The Last of Us which earned him an Emmy nomination.

Happy birthday to this sensational out and proud actor. Wishing him many more years of success and creative fulfillment!
