You know George W. Bush just wished Helen Thomas would go away. The longtime UPI White House reporter who has covered every president since John F. Kennedy, is now a columnist for Hearst and has always asked the tough questions no matter who she is working for or who is in office.

So how wonderful it was so see that one her 89th birthday – she’s still working the beat full time! – Miss Thomas was surprised with cupcakes by President Barack Obama in the White House briefing room and led the press corps in singing Happy Birthday to this living legend. He then gave her a kiss on the cheek and was on his way.

Classy move.

Oh, by the way, it’s President Obama’s birthday too! He’s turned 48 years old today.
