Happy 79th birthday to Joan Rivers!

I have loved Joan Rivers since the 80s when I’d stay up late to watch whenever she was hosting The Tonight Show and I’d tape her monologues on my cassette recorder.
This was pre-VCR folks!
Joan is one of the great showbiz survivors who has reinvented herself multiple times and managed to remain relevant.
Joan turns 79 today and she is as busy as ever hosting the weekly Fashion Police show on E! and starring with her daughter Melissa in a reality show on WE called Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best.
I chatted with Joan in January at a luncheon and she told me that through all of her career ups and downs, she has always been able to count on her enormous gay fan base.
‘They were the first ones to laugh at me,’ she said.
Then she added, jokingly: ‘Kathy [Griffin] got the ones I don’t want. She got the ones that don’t have chic apartments.’
Here is some Joan moments from the 60s,70s, 80s and beyond to celebrate her birthday:

Joan truly is one-of-a-kid. I remember, back in the days of vinyl, when I bought her album “What Becomes a Semi-Legend Most”. I listened to it over & over & over. I wish I were fortunate enough to see her live, but whenever I see her on TV it’s like she’s right there with me. Her energy is infectious, and I wish her many, many more happy years. She really is a legend in my eyes.

Joan,
I’ve loved you all my life, saw you first on Hollywood Squares. Everybody says Lucy Ball paved the way for women, and that may be true, business-wise, but I love what you’ve done for us, you’re so crass, brave, witty, and adorable. You also age more beautifully everyday. Not only men can age like wine, you make me proud to me a woman, I’m jealous of Julianna and Kellie for getting to have so much fun with you. Raid my closet anytime. I’m a hillbilly glam doll. I just painted a pair of “paint platter shutter shades” form the 80’s, a must soo. Love, love, love you, happy bday, may we be blessed with many more from you. When will hollywood get smart and give you a sexy comendy, me and my friends would love to watch you, anytiem, all the time. Chow, Lilly
