Happy 78th birthday to Liza Minnelli!

It’s just a few days after Oscar Sunday so what a great opportunity to shine the spotlight on 1973 best actress winner Liza Minnelli who turns 78 today!

Liza, who was also Oscar nominated for The Sterile Cuckoo, won the prize for Cabaret. Her other memorable films have included Arthur, New York New York, Stepping Out, and Tell Me That You Love Me, Junie Moon.

But it is on the stage where Liza has shined brightest including Tony Award-winning performances in The Act and Flora the Red Menace as well as successful shows including The Rink, Liza’s at the Palace and Minnelli on Minnelli. She also has well-publicized Broadway runs in Chicago and Victor/Victoria. She made her professional stage debut in the 1963 Off-Broadway revival of Best Foot Forward. Her concert performances at Carnegie Hall in 1979 and 1987 and at Radio City Music Hall in 1991 and 1992 are recognized among her most successful. From 1988 to 1990, she toured with Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. in Frank, Liza & Sammy: The Ultimate Event.

Other career highlights include the Emmy-winning Liza with a ‘Z’. A Concert for Television and her 1989 collaboration with the Pet Shop Boys on Results, an electronic dance-style album. The release hit the top 10 in the UK and charted in the U.S., spawning four singles: Losing My Mind, Don’t Drop Bombs, So Sorry, I Said and Love Pains.
