Happy 77th birthday to the great Betty Buckley – let’s celebrate with some of her performances!
When you hear Betty Buckley sing, there is no mistaking it for anybody else.
This lady, who celebrates her 77th birthday today, is simply one of a kind.
She had appeared on Broadway in Pippin and 1776 before gaining widespread fame as Abby Bradford on ABC’s Eight is Enough. When the show left the air in 1981, it was back to Broadway and the Tony-winning role of Grizabella in Cats.
Other shows followed including Song and Dance, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Triumph of Love and as a smash replacement for Glenn Close in Sunset Boulevard. She had previously replaced Patti LuPone in the London production of Sunset Boulevard. More recently, she starred in the title role in the national tour of Hello, Dolly! which I saw at the Pantages Theatre. I also saw Miss Buckley in Grey Gardens at the Ahmanson Theatre.
Here are some standout performances from throughout the years plus the bottom video is a recent tour Miss Buckley took to some of the Broadway theaters where she has performed:
