Happy 75th Birthday to Julie Andrews!
There are stars and there are stars.
Julie Andrews has been one of the brightest for more than 50 years. She made her name on Broadway in the original productions of My Fair Lady and Camelot then segued over to movies where she won the Oscar for Mary Poppins and headlined the all-time classic The Sound of Music.
Then came Thoroughly Modern Millie, Darling Lili, Victor/Victoria, The Princess Diaries and its sequel and the blockbuster Shrek franchise.
Although a botched throat operation robbed Miss Andrews of her operatic singing voice, she’s still going strong writing books and making movies. She co-starred with Dwayne Johnson in last year’s The Tooth Fairy and she was one of the voices in the summer animated hit Despicable Me.
It’s an amazing career that has seen her win the Oscar, the Emmy, five Golden Globes, the Kennedy Center Honors and be named a Dame of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II.
Happy birthday to a legend!

Julie Andrews will always be Mary Poppins to me. I remember back in 1964 when I was a little kid, our whole family stood out in the pouring rain while waiting in line to see Mary Poppins. My sisters and I were totally mesmerized when she appeared on the movie screen. Then the following year we saw her in the Sound of Music. This is the Julie Andrews I remember and grew up watching as a small child. What an incredible voice this woman had. She’s one-of-a-kind.
Happy Birthday Julie Andrews!
