Happy 69th birthday to the great Delta Burke!

Last week, I attended a 25th anniversary screening of the cult classic film Sordid Lives and so enjoyed seeing Delta Burke as Noleta Nethercott.

I’ve always been such a big fan of this gifted comedic actress who earned two Emmy nominations for her deliciously hilarious performance as Suzanne Sugarbaker during the first five seasons of TV’s Designing Women. She was fired at the end in a dispute with producers but they reconciled a few years later and resurrected the Suzanne character for the single season sitcom Women of the House. It wasn’t a success but I’ve seen every episode and there were plenty of funny moments.

I also loved Delta as Cherry Cherry on TV’s Popular – she was a hoot!

Delta has had battles with weight and depression over the years but, just like her Broadway character of Truvvy in Steel Magnolias, she has survived. I hope she returns to acting on a regular basis at some point – but only if she wants to!

Either way, we will always have her work on screen to remember her by. Here are a few scenes:
