Happy 68th Birthday to the amazing Billie Jean King! Here is a video of highlights of her singular life

It just kills me that there is a generation  of young people who probably know more about Kim Kardashian than Billie Jean King.

A tennis champion who has dedicated her life to fighting for social change and equality, Billie Jean has never been afraid to take the lead and has truly made a difference in the world.

She created new inroads for both genders in and out of sports during her legendary career which included winning 39 Grand Slam singles, doubles and mixed doubles tennis titles, including a record 20 titles at Wimbledon.

Billie Jean, who turns 68 today, launched team tennis, fought for equal prize money, formed a separate tour for women so they would no longer have to play in the shadow of the men, and scored a huge symbolic victory for women when she beat Bobby Riggs in the famous 1973 Battle of the Sexes match.

It’s been so great to see Billie Jean get her due in recent years including being presented with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor.  The award was presented to King by President Obama on Aug. 12, 2009 in ceremonies at The White House.

In 2006, the United States Tennis Association named the National Tennis Center after King who was also named one of the “100 Most Important Americans of the 20th Century” by Life Magazine in 1990.
