Happy 50th birthay to Cynthia Nixon!
Did you know that Cynthia Nixon is just an Oscar win away from becoming an EGOT?
All the Sex and the City alum needs is a measly Academy Award to go along with her two Emmys, Tony and Grammy and she becomes part of that elite group that Rita Moreno started all those years ago.
What an amazing career our Miranda Hobbs has had. She was just a teenager in 1980 when she made her feature debut co-starring with Kristy McNichol and Tatum O’Neal in Little Darlings and made her Broadway debut as Dinah Lord in a revival of The Philadelphia Story.
In 1984, while a freshman at Barnard College, Cynthia made theatrical history by simultaneously appearing in two hit Broadway plays directed by Mike Nichols: The Real Thing and Hurlyburly.
The two theaters were just two blocks apart and Nixon’s roles were both short, so she could run from one to the other.
She’s remained in demand ever since on Broadway (Rabbit Hole, Wit, Angels in America), on television (SATC franchise, Warm Springs, Tanner 88) and feature films (James White, Advice From a Caterpillar, Igby Goes Down).
She’s also been a passionate and very articulate activist when it comes to same-sex marriage.
She’s been in one of her own since 2012 when she married Christine Marmoni.
Today she turns 50 and I have a feeling some of her best work is still ahead – and let’s hope it includes at least one more go-round as Miranda!

Hey, Greg!
I love your blog and wouldn’t miss a day of it. I did want to mention to you again (I think I’ve written to you about this before) that despite her claims, Rita Moreno was not the first person or even the first actor to achieve the EGOT status.
Richard Rodgers got there first (and he also has a couple of Pulitzers which Ms. Moreno doesn’t have), and Helen Hayes was the first actor to reach that level. Rita comes third in the line-up. A great achievement, but Rita is not the first.
