Happy 45th Birthday to Gale Harold!
I like to always make note of Gale Harold’s birthday for a couple of reasons.
First of all, he’s a fine actor whose portrayal of Brian Kinney on HBO’s Queer as Folk was one of the most sexy and delicious of any male gay character on television – ever.
Secondly, I will no doubt hear from his many loyal fans from around the world who will remind me that today is Gale’s birthday – he turns 45.
Last year, Gale was asked about the challenges of same-sex love scenes for an actor.
“I’m straight, but the character was too important to me to muddle his world with my private life,’ he said. ‘As a nobody, I got away with that deflection. I think it may have helped to introduce Brian as a believable gay man. Maybe not. However it played, it’s been out of my hands for a long time”.

Loved him and his portrayal of Brian Kinney on Queer as Folk, but haven’t seen him in anything recently.
Several seasons ago I saw him in New York in Suddenly Last Summer and thought he gave a fine performance. Why don’t we see him on stage, screen or TV more often.

Does make me wonder if being straight didn’t work to his advantage as Brian Kinney. The character never seemed to make a true emotional connection-as a straight man could never truly connect with a gay role. No matter what you say, you either have it or you don’t.
