Happy 27th Birthday to Scott Evans!
When One Live to Live wonders where so many of its viewers have gone, they should be able to point to when they abruptly wrote out the character of officer Oliver Fish who was not only a good cop, but was a young gay man finding himself and finding love.
So many viewers cared about Oliver because of the presence and the performance of the actor who played him: Scott Evans, who turns 27 years old today.
Happy birthday to Scott who went from being the unknown brother of actor Chris Evans to a soap sensation with a faithful fan base. He also had the guts to be an openly gay actor and to speak to eloquently about his life experience and about the storyline of Oliver and his boyfriend Kyle Lewis (Brett Claywell).
The actors, who had already been on the show in other storylines, took the fall when ABC daytime decided their storyline had turned off too many viewers. What they didn’t cop to was the fact that the Oliver-Kyle story was just fine on its own but ended up becoming a part of this huge marriage equality plot that involved a huge gay wedding and Dorian Lord pretending to be a lesbian in order to get elected mayor.
I’ll never know why the show did not simply let the gay marriage storyline fade and let Oliver and Fish be a couple raising a baby. I would have wanted to see that and I would have tuned in and encouraged readers to do so. But not a chance now.
Anyway, I wish sexy Scott all the luck in the world in future projects.
