“Happily Divorced” is cancelled by TV Land
This does not please me.
TV Land did not renew the Fran Drescher comedy Happily Divorced for a third season.
The show about a former married couple who got divorced after a long marriage because the husband figured out that he was gay was based on the real-life story of Drescher and ex-husband Peter Marc Jacobson.
Jacobson was co-creator of the show with Drescher and an executive producer as he was on Drescher’s first series The Nanny.
Jacobson broke the news on Facebook tonight: THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT WITH HAPPILY DIVORCED. UNFORTUNATELY TVLAND HAS DECIDED NOT TO PICK US UP. BUT THANK YOU GUYS FOR UR LOVE N SUPPORT!
I always enjoyed the show and loved that Fran’s mom was played by the legendary Rita Moreno.
Sorry that it’s ending.

Oh no! I really liked this show too. It was fun, never demanding, and always had one or two LOL moments. At least Peter finally got a boyfriend at the end.
James says:
This is a shame. I loved the cast, funny people who were on other funny sitcoms. I was waiting for Peter to find his Mr. Right and fall in love. Most likely when Fran found hers and they could of had a double wedding since the show takes place in California. Someone pick this show up.

For some reason I seem to have known about this a long time ago…maybe cause I have been in a few episodes of the show that will replace it called “Kristie” staring Kristie Alley, Michael Richards and Rhea Pearlman with a guest star every week from one of these peoples lives like Jason Alexander and John Travolta. Unfortunately TV Land only has a few slots to fill so I guess something had to go. Always sad to see a good show go.
Stuart says:
My problem with the show is that it usually focused SOLELY on Fran. This show was about a COUPLE that was divorced and finding their way in the new dating world. It should have put both Fran Drescher and John Michael Higgins as co-leads with equal billing and equal storylines. Watching Peter make mistakes dating would have given this a fresh take instead of relying on Fran and her “I Love Lucy” antics all the time. Don’t get me wrong. I loved the show. I just thought there was so much more to mine had they gone deeper into the aspects of the gay dating world especially with Peter coming out “later in life”. You heard Peter talking about going to the gym but you never saw him there and feeling insecure around a hot trainer or timid about talking to someone he was interested in. Peter never got a friend/confidant that could help him understand his new status. Yeah, there was the “gay bar” set but we only visited to see Fran’s friend sing. You hardly ever saw Peter trying to mingle. So many missed opportunities to connect with the older gay TV Land audience. I am sorry to see it go.
