“Hail and Farewell”: CBS Sunday Morning pays tribute beautifully to those we lost in 2025

This is done so beautifully and thoughtfully. “Sunday Morning” correspondent Lee Cowan remembers some of the newsworthy men and women who passed away this year – musicians, artists and storytellers who surpassed the ordinary; politicians who defied expectations; and activists who fought for justice – all touching us with their creativity and humanity.

What a list. So many losses. Some like Robert Redford, Gene Hackman and Richard Chamberlain lived out full lives. Others, like Rob and Michele Reiner, were cut tragically short. Among others we lost: Val Kilmer, Brian Wilson, Sally Kirkland, Ozzy Osbourne, NPR’s Susan Stamberg, and the great Diane Keaton.
