Gus Kenworthy considered coming out in Sochi during 2014 Olympics by kissing boyfriend after big race
Freeskier Gus Kenworthy stopped by Conan O’Brien’s late night show this week and talked about his decision to come out last fall.
Gus shares that he had considered coming out during the Summer Olympics in Sochi, Russia, as a way to make a statement against that country’s newly-passed anti-gay propaganda law.
“I had a boyfriend at the time and had kind of talked about landing the best run ever and winning an Olympic gold medal and kissing him at the bottom and… That would be my way of telling everyone. But it didn’t happen, and I’m glad it didn’t because I hadn’t told my mom, my dad, my brothers. It would have not only been a shock to the sport and to the Olympics, but my family would have been like, what the hell?”

Countervail says:
Now that he’s been on TV, can we hope the “look at me” tour is over?
Greg Hernandez says:
Why should it be?
K. Martinez says:
@Countervail, Gus Kentworthy’s “look at me” tour as you call it can continue for a long time as far as I’m concerned. He’ s a gay man who’s accomplished something special and a positive role model for other gay male youth. On top of all that he’s a real cutie. I surely hope he’s around for a while.
FAEN says:
@Countervail-Why don’t you just stop looking you hypocritical ass wipe.
Mike says:
This guy is a great roll model for young people. Well adjusted, Olympic Medalist, well spoken, big heart.
Charlie says:
Personally, I think Gus is a breath of fresh air. He is funny, sincere, and beautiful. I have enjoyed the interviews he has been giving. I though he was great back when he rescued those dogs in Russia, and I had no clue that he was even gay. I will be glad to see him around as long as he wants to be a virtuous example to young gay kids.
