Greg’s Gallery: The LA Gay Men’s Chorus
When Ted Johnson and I met 20 years ago as young reporters for the LA Times, I just don’t think we ever thought we’d end up backstage at the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles concert with Miss Coco Peru! But here we are with this fabulous entertainer who I am now officially a huge fan of. She hosted a show called “And the Award Goes to…” which was an evening of Oscar, Grammy and Tony winning songs by the singing group.
Knock me over with a feather. This is me, after the show, with the sensational Valarie Pettiford who dazzled during her two numbers. I first saw her last year at an evening of Cabaret saluting Ron Abel. In an evening that featured such talents as Lucie Arnaz, Loretta Devine, Joely Fisher, and Linda Purl, it was Valarie who just knocked my socks off. I remember thinking after that night, who is THAT?
At intermission, bumped into Brad Fuhr (second from left) and Tim Choy (right). It was a very fun night and I think everyone looks forward to the next GMCLA performance!
