The 2013 Greggys: The New Star of the Year is “All-American Boy” sensation Steve Grand!
Am handing out a few Greggys today and the first goes to Mr. Steve Grand!
He has been named Greg In Hollywood’s New Star of the Year following in the footsteps of such past winners as Darren Criss.
Steve was an unknown until the Fourth of July weekend when he released All-American Boy on YouTube and it immediately went viral.
All the more amazing was that Steve write the song and financed the video by maxing out his credit card.
A star was born and he did it all on his own.
Since then, Steve has released a follow-up song called Stay (second video below) and he’s toured the US making appearances at scores of gay pride events and LGBT parties and benefits.
I met him after his performance at Palm Springs Pride and he could not have been nicer to his fans – shook every hand, posed for every photo.
That’s something Steve, just 23, has made a point of doing: connecting personally with his fans. He regularly posts updates on Facebook and Twitter about what he’s doing and how he feels about it all.
It’s been fun to watch his star rise.
It will be interesting to see what happens in 2014 – hopefully Steve will be able to put out an entire album and take things to an entirely new level.
He’s off to an amazing start!

I watched “Stay” just now and really concentrated of it rather than using it as background music, and now I’m confused. Is the “Old Man” to which he refers his father? A partner? A euphemism for something else?

Edward, my interpretation of “Old Man” was the protagonist’s father. But your questions raises an interesting possibility? Maybe the “Old Man” is an older unattractive Sugar Daddy who happens to be on vacation in Europe, and the protagonist is using this time to have carnal relations with a younger, more attractive man?
