Greg In Hollywood is snubbed by the Emmys!!!
It seems that Kate Gosselin is going to be at the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday,. August 29 but I will not be.
In the waiting room at St. Joseph’s Hospital on Monday, my mom undergoing hip replacement surgery, I stepped outside to check email on my iPhone and there it was under the heading: Regrets: 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards.
We apologize, however regretfully we are not able to accommodate your media credential request for the 62nd Primetime Emmy® Awards on August 29th. We have tried as best we could and know many of you had covered the event in the past, but due to a few new elements,we have less space to work with and do not have room for all of the amazing media we would like to have on-site. Thank you so much for your interest and support in the Emmys.
Gee, thanks a lot Emmys! Did schlepping to Las Vegas to cover the heck out of the Daytime Emmys this year not matter one iota? Guess not.
Okay, the letter only said the actual Emmy ceremony. Since I’ve covered the Creative Arts Emmys (Kathy Griffin nicknamed them the Schmemmys) the past three years – even on years when no one really cares about them – maybe I’d still get into those? I sent an email asking about that and got this reply a few days ago under the headline: Regrets – Creative Arts Emmy Awards.
Hello ~ We apologize, however regretfully we are not able to accommodate your media credential request for 2010 Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards on August 21. Unfortunately we do not have room for all of the amazing media we would like to have on-site. Thank you so much for your interest and support in the Creative Arts Emmys.
They don’t make it easy for independent sites to do their jobs with this kind of impersonal brush off. It’s additionally frustrating as an LGBT site to not be able to cover the awards this year when so many openly gay performers (Jane Lynch, Neil Patrick Harris, Chris Colfer,Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Wanda Sykes, Sir. Ian McKellen and more) are nominated and openly gay Glee creator-director-producer Ryan Murphy is up for multiple awards.
I’m not sure what I’ll doing on Emmy night or on Schmemmy night the weekend before but you can count on a round-up of coverage even if it’s just me taking notes while sitting in front of the TV!
I just wish the folks representing the TV academy on credentialing could have been more thoughtful.

Not only is your writing of GLBT interest, I can tell from your writing that you treat celebrities with respect – they’d be lucky to have you reporting there:)
The system will come around, and your good work will be rewarded:)
Now who do we write to to get you on?
Mike says:
Too bad and is their loss as your site is class all the way, but, I guess they’ll give one to TMZ and the other gossip sites, next year we’ll have to get a petition for you to get your credentials!
Kate Gisselin, I guess that shows where they are going this year and a reason to skip the whole show.

I am very dismayed that the Academy has made this arbitrary decision. It was my understanding that they have gone on record supporting efforts to increase participation and include more diversity in all aspects of their work. This shortsightedness again demonstrates that Hollywood is still stuck in the past as it wonders why the TV audience is moving on to other media.
Monkeyphat says:
Seriously, where do we write?
Monkeyphat says:
Wait, wait, wait. I’ve got it! We’ll kidnap Kathy Griffin and refuse to release her until they give Greg a pass. Who’s with me?! 🙂
2201 East says:
If you kidnap Kathy Griffin and and agree just keep her, that alone should be reaon enough for them to award him a life time pass.
Scottzo says:
Where do we write to express our Gay outrage? I’m thinkin’ email campaign, faxes, letters, boycotts, demonstration… power to the people! Power to the (Gay) press! What about your celebrity friends… they oughta be willing to send a tweet or update a status here and there to get a webroots campaign started! If we can get Betty White on SNL we can get you into the Emmys!

Thanks for the address Scottzo, done.
To Whom it May Concern:
I was made aware of the fact that you are not going to issue Greg Hernandez a press pass for this year’s Prime Time Emmys or Creative Emmys and I am outraged. Mr. Hernandez has promoted and supported the Emmys for many years, including this year’s Daytime Emmys in Las Vegas.
I realize Mr. Hernandez’s blog, “Greg In Hollywood” does not reach millions of readers, but it reaches a lot of gay and lesbian readers. Greg does not do “snarky” or mean articles. His articles are intelligent and socially relevant to the LGBT community, unlike, let’s say Perez Hilton, whom I’m sure you were thrilled to offer passes to. (Who, let’s face it, does not represent any group well)
Please reconsider your decision. Let’s have equal representation at the Emmy’s, please!
Thank you for your time,

Dear Academy of Television Arts & Sciences,
I am disappointed and dismayed by your refusal to accommodate Greg Hernandez’s media credential request for the Emmy Awards. Greg has consistently been a supporter of the Emmys. He is a friend to gay performers and artists such as Jane Lynch, Neil Patrick Harris, Chris Colfer, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Wanda Sykes, Sir Ian McKellen, Ryan Murphy, and others. And he is a credit to his profession of web journalism.
I had understood that you support efforts to increase participation and include more diversity in all aspects of your work. However, your shortsightedness in failing to accommodate Greg is a step backward for inclusiveness and diversity at the Emmys.
Unlike the coverage on many of the more gossipy web sites Greg’s reporting is consistently respectful and thoughtful. Too bad you were not more respectful and thoughtful when you decided to exclude him.
I urge you to reconsider your decision in the interest of having inclusive, fair, and quality web-journalist representation at your awards show. If you insist on relegating Greg to the TV audience viewing at home, I for one will be tuning in to another channel on the evening of August 29.

I sent them an email, too, Greg. Your coverage of big events is always a highlight of those events.
Hope they rectify the situation and send you an invite.
